60 weddings in nearly 3 years!
West Rose Video is on the preferred vendor list for several of Kansas City's top Wedding vendors.
As lead videographer and editor at West Rose Photo and Film, I am in charge of full wedding video production. I organize what gear is necessary to bring to location shoots and plan out the best way to execute the live production of the wedding day. My style of editing takes a chronological story-telling approach. Rather than producing a 5-minute highlight reel of the client's day, I prefer to showcase the real story. The precious little interactions that get lost in the chaos of the day as well as the big moments that are simply unforgettable - all have a place in my production style.
I am an editor who takes the time to be intentional. I spend hours finding the perfect soundtrack for each film to fit the couple's requests and how their day was portrayed in the eyes of an objective observer. On average, a 10-hour film day takes roughly 2 and a half work weeks to complete. Some of my overlooked responsibilities during this time include: media backup storage, mixing audio, selecting the best takes, occasionally editing out a messy part of the background, and coloring each clip to perfection. I shoot every wedding in a style that is unique to the couple, which is reflected in their ultimate custom film and teaser.

What I learned from this job experience:
-
How to work under pressure. There are no redos during a ceremony. It's important to remain calm, not only for the quality of the product, but to also keep face in front of clients.
-
How to work around mistakes. Accidents happen, so I learned how to fix it in post.
-
Working under tight deadlines. All Fall weddings need to be done before Christmas? Bring it on. Teasers are always completed within 1-2 business days of the event.
-
Networking. Knowing the right planners and getting their seal of approval means we book more clients. My work is highly recommended by several planners and other vendors throughout Kansas City.
-
Improvising on the spot. I don't freeze when plans fall apart. My camera overheated right as the bride is about to make her entrance? Rather than panic, I ran to grab my tripod cam and didn't miss a thing.
-
Adaptability. Not everything goes according to plan. When we're running behind schedule, locations change, or the clients decide to mix it up - I'm ready to go.
-
Taking critiques. Before a film is sent to the client, it undergoes a few rounds of critiques from management. By Version 4, it's ready to be delivered.
-
How to anticipate what is going to happen during a live production. In a world of unpredictability, I learned to sit back and observe. When you understand the situation, you can predict the small interactions that make a good film great.
-
Critiquing myself during post-production. I always take notes during my edit so that I can do better next time.
